Biography:
I have lived in Burnham since 1947 and count myself lucky to do so.
I attended St Peter’s Junior School, then grammar school in Slough. After leaving school, I worked at Coopers-Payen as Secretary to the Works Personnel Officer, leaving to have my daughter, closely followed by two sons.
I returned to work once all three children started school, firstly as Team Secretary at Social Services and then as School Secretary for 11 years, also becoming a parent governor.
Looking for a new challenge, I joined Thames Valley Police as a civilian (I am now a Police Support Volunteer). This was extremely interesting and demanding, working in crime management, domestic violence, scenes of crime, and two murder incident rooms.
I ran the Junior Citizen Scheme for two weeks - two schools per day for 14 days, totalling about 600-800 children.
On retirement, I started volunteering in the RSPCA charity shop. I also delivered prescriptions to housebound people, which was very satisfying.
A number of councillors, including me, are working towards having a museum in Burnham to celebrate our village. I am also organising a Fun Dog Show for the Village Fete.
Hockey is my enduring love, and I play regularly every week.
