Burnham Parish Council has reacted with great concern to proposals from a London based 'Think Tank' to build 20,000 new homes at Taplow.
The Council is joining local residents and neighbouring parishes in making representations through their MP, Joy Morrissey, and has written to Buckinghamshire Council asking for its support in opposing the ‘wholly unsuitable and unsustainable’ development. They have also asked the Council to undertake to focus housing growth on more suitable and suitable areas of the county.
Chair of the Council, Cllr Marie Hammon, said:
“We are shocked and appalled at this proposal. This land cannot be considered brown belt, grey belt, or anything else other than what it is: an important and scenic part of the green belt. This proposal would destroy all of the considerable effort put in by the council and the community to ensure that the area develops over time in a sympathetic, appropriate and sustainable way. It would hugely damage biodiversity, and would fundamentally and irrevocably alter the character of the area.”
She added “We of course support sustainable new housing, appropriately designed, and in the right places, and would not object to Burnham taking its fair share – we have already identified suitable brownfield sites such as former garages and industrial sites where this could take place”.
