Burnham Parish Council is consulting residents of Lent Green Lane about a possible pilot project for solar streetlighting. A letter explaining the idea, and a survey asking for residents views, was delivered over the weekend to most of Lent Green Lane, and will be going out to the remaining flats not yet delivered in the next few days.
If we go ahead with the project we will replace the 27 street light heads in Lent Green Lane with solar lights, aiming to do this before the clocks go back in autumn 2025. The new lights would charge during the day and use no electricity; and would only turn on fully when someone was nearby. There are more details in the letter. If the project is successful we would then look to extend it further within Burnham.
This is a genuine consultation where we have explained the advantages and disadvantages of the idea in the letter, and are interested in what the residents of the area actually think about it.
If you live in Lent Green Lane and have not received a letter by the end of this week please email assistantclerk@burnhamparish.gov.uk for a copy. The surveys need to be returned to Burnham Park Hall by the end of March.
Please also note that we will be carrying out further repairs to streetlights across Burnham in the coming weeks, as the 2025-26 budget becomes available. This project would not take away from the money budgeted for this work.
